Spring Cleaning
There’s just something about spring that makes you want to open the windows, let the fresh air in, and finally tackle that growing pile of “I’ll deal with it later.” Yep, it’s spring-cleaning season. And while it might not be the most exciting thing on your to-do list, it’s kind of a game-changer. Clearing out the clutter, freshening up your space, and giving everything a reset can seriously boost your mood - and maybe even your productivity. Here are some ideas for keeping your LGI Home neat and prepared for the warmer months to come.
One of the easiest ways to begin on your spring-cleaning journey is to declutter. There are many places you can clean that you may have never thought of before. Some of the obvious ones include your room and closet. Cleaning out your clothes and donating items that you don’t use anymore opens the opportunity for more storage or space for more in-season items. Some other areas of the house that may have grown piles and piles include your fridge, pantry and bathroom storage. These are areas of a house that build up clutter quickly and are likely to be forgotten for long periods. The fridge, for example, gains food throughout the year that may go forgotten. Take the time to clean each shelf out and wipe down the surfaces inside. Throw out items that you notice are either expired or have gone unused for an extended period. Do the same with your pantry and bathroom storage. This will open more space and make you feel more organized.
Other areas of your house that you may not have thought to clean in a long time are your baseboards and the tops of your ceiling fan. Throughout the year, these areas of your house build up with dust and dirt and are often neglected. It takes just a few minutes to grab a duster and a mop and wipe down those surfaces. Once you’ve cleaned it, you’ll notice how much cleaner your space feels.
When it comes to bedding, this is another area of the house that may go unforgotten. If you can’t remember the last time you cleaned your comforter or duvet cover, now would be a great opportunity to do that. Typically, experts recommend washing your duvet cover or comforter every 1-3 months if you’re allergy-prone.
Lastly, an area that is probably not everyone’s favorite to clean is the bathroom. Scrub the surfaces of the tub, clean the grout and wipe down the shower head and handle. There are different types of cleaners to use when cleaning a bathtub, but an easy solution is to use baking soda. To be sanitary, make sure you wear latex gloves to avoid skin irritation and exposure to germs. If you just have a shower, scrub down the surfaces of the walls with your cleaner of choice. Make sure to squeegee the shower door whenever you use it so mildew doesn’t grow from the buildup.
Cleaning may not be everyone’s favorite chore; however, maintaining a clean home can provide a sense of a fresh start and is good not only for the space itself, but also for your mentality.
